@TV Demand Last Week (May 29, 2020): Defending Jacob, HBO Max, COVID-19 Special Report
This week we highlight a breakout hit for Apple TV+, take a look at the latest streaming service on the block, and reveal our Navigating COVID-19 Special Report. Transcript: I’m Wade Payson-Denney with Parrot Analytics and this is “TV Demand Last Week.” Some old favorites top the charts, a new player enters the Streaming Wars, and we provide an industry guide to navigating the coronavirus pandemic. SpongeBob Squarepants won the week with 86.3 times more demand than the average show in the US. Once again we see animated hits stand out, with Rick and Morty and My Hero Academia placing in the top four overall shows. On the digital original front, Netflix’s Stranger Things returns to number one after a four week run from Disney+’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Further down the chart we find a strong performance from Apple TV+. Defending Jacob has been Apple TV+’s most in-demand series so far, and has helped the service grow its demand share in the US during the coronavirus pandemic. This is especially important as another competitor in the Streaming Wars officially debuted on May 27th. AT&T’s HBO Max offers a compelling library of highly in-demand series like Friends, The Big Bang Theory and Game of Thrones. However, its confusing branding and high price point at a time when millions are struggling with unemployment could be a drawback. Meanwhile, we at Parrot Analytics have released our Navigating COVID-19 Special Report. This industry guide reveals how content and genre trends are shifting, provides a roadmap for various segments of the industry, and reveals how TV executives are planning the year ahead in following the initial disruptions from the pandemic. Visit parrot analytics dot com and download today to find out more. That wraps it up for this week's episode of TV Demand Last Week. Thanks for listening, we’ll see next time!
