@On Female Body Hair & Shaving My Legs For The 1st Time In 2+ Years | Body Hair Grooming
I got a request to talk specifically about pubic hair—my thoughts on it, its purpose, and what I do with mine. I thought it would be fun to expand on that request and not only discuss pubic hair, but also armpit hair and leg hair! ✩ Related Videos: → I don't know if I want kids anymore: https://youtu.be/zE0aQCYQzC0 → An ode to my healing body: https://youtu.be/A2gJci6KzRo → Heal my pelvis with me: https://youtu.be/r9ONp2o2atE → All about queefing: https://youtu.be/5peCf7HB5vc → All about the female g-spot: https://youtu.be/pTtT_RyGyb0 😺 Check meowt on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pelvicempowerment/ Please check below for timestamps and studies mentioned in the video 😊 ✩ Intro: 0:00 ✩ On General Body Hair: 1:21 ✩ Leg Hair: 2:25 ✩ Armpit Hair & Pubic Hair: 3:27 → 2017 STI & grooming study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27920223 This study surveyed 7580 US residents aged 18-65 on self-reported pubic hair grooming practices, sexual behaviors, and STI history. They defined extreme grooming as removal of all pubic hair more than 11 times per year, and high-frequency grooming as daily or weekly trimming. Cutaneous STIs referred to herpes, HPV, syphilis, and molluscum. Secretory STIs referred to gonorrhoea, chlamydia, and HIV. They analyzed lice, known as crabs, separately. So, the study did find that ever having groomed was positively correlated with all STIs and lice, where the extreme, high frequency groomers were more likely to have cutaneous and secretory STIs and the non-extreme, low-frequency groomers were more likely to have lice. Correlation doesn’t mean causation. It could very well be that it isn’t grooming your pubic hair that increases your risk for STIs, but rather that those who do groom their pubic hair are more sexually active, which means higher exposure to STIs, which means an increased risk of contracting STIs. And I think it makes sense that non-extreme, low frequency groomers were more likely to have lice since lice live in hair. → 1953 study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/13091383 → 2003 study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12810039 → 2018 study on the attractiveness of women’s body odor to men: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6158529/ This study investigated individual differences in body odors of women and examined whether some women generally smell more attractive than others or whether odor preferences are a matter of individual taste. They also explored whether levels of reproductive hormones explain women's body odor attractiveness, to test the idea that body odor attractiveness may act as a chemosensory marker of reproductive fitness. 57 men rated body odors of 28 healthy, ovulating women of reproductive age. They purposefully collected body odor at peak fertility (during ovulation) to control for menstrual cycle effects on body odor. Ovulation means high levels of estrogen and low levels of progesterone. These women’s estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol levels were assessed at the time of odor collection to test whether hormone levels explain body odor attractiveness. As it turns out, the men HIGHLY agreed on how attractive they found women's body odors. Women's body odor attractiveness was predicted by their estrogen and progesterone levels: the higher a woman's levels of estrogen and the lower her levels of progesterone—aka the more she was ovulating and therefore the more fertile she was—the more attractive her body odor was rated. Since women’s body odor attractiveness was explained by levels of female reproductive hormones, but not by levels of cortisol or testosterone, this study supports that body odor acts as a marker of potential fertility. ✩ The History of Shaving Body Hair: 6:48 ✩ My Relationship With My Body Hair: 7:57 ✩ Shave My Legs With Me! 14:22 ✩ Outro: 16:43 Remember, materials and content available in this channel, Pelvic Empowerment, are intended as general information only, and should not be substituted for medical advice, prescription, diagnosis, or treatment.
