@Ubuntu 15.10 VS Windows 10 : Saints Row IV Benchmark on a GTX 680
This benchmark takes a look at the Nvidia performance of the native versions of Saints Row IV on both Ubuntu and Windows. Timeline: 1. Intro 0:00 2. Results (graphs) 0:37 3. Side-by-side comparison 1:25 4. Summary and port difference study 2:04 Link to JakeJW93's video that was referenced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn1dztJpEmU Nvidia drivers: Windows 10 uses 361.43 Ubuntu 15.10 uses 358.16 Quick note, I misspoke at 0:20 in the video. I said Nvidia 346, but I meant 361 (I was assumed dyslexic at a young age, so I still read things in incorrect order sometimes, I apologize). Saints Row IV is brought to us by Virtual Programming and their eOn technology, with the blessings of Deep Silver. An important note, the benchmark is not a frame-for-frame benchmark. Instead, different events can occur during the benchmark each time. I run through a similar sequence to gather these results. Whilst performance is not directly at the level of the Windows version of the game, losing 30fps on average is not as bad as previous titles ported to Linux at 1080p. An improvement to performance is of course always welcome. This has been a pretty good port by Virtual Programming, at least for Nvidia users, and seems to be an improvement over the Bioshock Infinite experience. There does not seem to be any cases of hard crashing or hanging the entire system. The graphical settings are exactly the same on both Linux and Windows, which is good. The 360 controller has working feedback as well, which is very much appreciated. Lastly, the save files are interchangeable between Windows and Linux, so you can switch to either system without worrying about losing your save files. If open world games with total havoc and a fun storyline are things that interest you, then Saints Row IV is the next big triple-A title you need to add to your Linux game library!
