Penguin Recordings's video: X COM 2 Gameplay and Performance on Ubuntu Linux Native

@X COM 2 Gameplay and Performance on Ubuntu Linux (Native)
XCOM 2 running natively on Ubuntu 15.10 64bit! Our first triple-A day-1 title for Linux gaming in 2016. This new title to Linux is brought to us by Feral Interactive, on the exact same day as release for Windows and Mac OS X. What a great way to start Linux gaming in 2016! Multiplayer is crossplatform, so you can play online with Windows users and Mac users without issue! The base game does have some slight performance woes, and can be felt most strongly during the tutorial. Once you get past the tutorial, things become a lot smoother. Currently, I have only been able to crash XCOM 2 by having a Dual Shock 4 or 360 controller plugged in and pressing R2/Right trigger. For some reason, this causes the game to crash. The controller's are detected and work in-game. Hopefully a patch fixes this so we have additional input options. Overall, the simple verdict is that the game is stable and playable, but could do with a much needed boost to framerates or at least smoothening of the sections that like to hang up (particularly action cut scenes). I did notice some irregularities with game audio as well. Sometimes audio would fall slighlty behind the game's actions, but in the end would usually correct itself after some time. If you have a newer card, you can definitely expect a better overall experience than my own. AMD and Intel are not currently officially supported, and this is due to outstanding issues in both AMD and Intel's Linux drivers. Feral are working towards making it work on these GPUs. This video is recorded at 1080p 60fps. If you love turn-based strategy games, loved XCOM EU/EW, then XCOM 2 is a must get for your Linux gaming library!
