Penguin Recordings's video: RTX 3090 4K Gaming on Ubuntu maxed out Proton Ryzen 3950X

@RTX 3090 4K Gaming on Ubuntu maxed out [Proton] | Ryzen 3950X
With the RTX 3090 release, I run through 10 major triple-A titles in Valve's Proton on Ubuntu at 4K! Watch the video in 4K 60fps for the greatest detail level. My main computer rig specs: CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 3950x 3.5Ghz ( https://amzn.to/2HQXcoT ) GPU - Nvidia RTX 3090 24GB (MSI Ventus) ( https://amzn.to/32gG3f8 ) RAM - 32GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz ( https://amzn.to/3jGTgE1 ) MOBO - Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro Wifi ( https://amzn.to/36iQm3C ) PSU - EVGA 1000w G+ ( https://amzn.to/36hPbSb ) OS - Ubuntu 20.04 64Bit/Windows 10 Pro 64Bit (Dual Boot) Fun fact 1: This video took up over 1TB of storage to record and edit. Fun fact 2: The final video render was 26GB, YouTube has compressed it down to 2.8GB Video recorded using: Ninja Atomos V https://amzn.to/34Gcq8O GoPro Hero 7 https://amzn.to/3oF7l8M Blue Yeti Mic https://amzn.to/3oExGDR Timeline links: 1. Intro 0:00 2. Resident Evil 0:18 3. Control 2:14 4. The Outer Worlds 4:11 5. Assassin's Creed Odyssey 5:40 6. Doom Eternal 7:24 7. Borderlands 3 8:43 8. Metro Exodus 10:18 9. Devil May Cry 5 11:33 10. Death Stranding 12:48 11. Far Cry 5 14:11 12. Outro + Nier Automata 15:24 I used the following Nvidia drivers throughout this video: Ubuntu with Nvidia 455.23.04 proprietary driver I had Force Full Composition Pipeline off in the Nvidia driver to allow most of the games to go above 60fps and not be capped at my screen's refresh rate. That said Death Stranding refused to uncap itself from the 60fps limit and I have no idea why. The following are the list of games and the graphics API they were running in: 1. Resident Evil 3 [DX12] 2020 2. Control [DX12] 2019 3. Outer Worlds [DX11] 2019 4. Assassin's Creed Odyssey [DX11] 2018 5. Doom Eternal [Vulkan] 2020 6. Borderlands 3 [DX12] 2019 7. Metro Exodus [DX12] 2019 8. Devil May Cry 5 [DX12] 2019 9. Death Stranding [DX12] 2019 10. Far Cry 5 [DX11] 2018 All of these games are official copies purchased legitimately via the Steam Linux client on Ubuntu. None of them have been run on Windows, all were activated within Ubuntu. Two games I would have loved to add to this list but did not work in Proton were Mortal Kombat 11 and Red Dead Redemption 2. I maxed out all the games, with the exception of the following settings: V-sync off in all titles Anti-aliasing off in all titles except DMC5 (lowest option is still FXAA+TAA) I could not enable DLSS or Ray Tracing in Control, the feature was locked out. I could not enable HDR in Doom Eternal, since HDR support on Linux does not currently exist in an official format. All games were played with a wireless Xbox One controller using the official Microsoft PC dongle. The amazing stats overlay on the top left of the screen is MangoHud, by FlightlessMango. A really impressive tool. Game recording was done externally using an Atomos Ninja V (https://amzn.to/34Gcq8O). No performance loss this way, since the Atomos just captures HDMI output externally (it's a physical device outside of the computer). I hope I have not made any mistakes. Took about a week++ to make this video. Feel free to share your experience in the comments below! Feel like I might have missed any important information or have questions, or additional information you want to share? Post it in the comments! This video is recorded at 2160p (4k) 60fps, via an Atomos Ninja V. If you love Windows-only triple-A titles, then Valve's Proton may just be a must get for your Linux gaming library toolkit! I would still greatly prefer all these titles get ported to Linux officially, but Valve has definitely helped us bridge the gap.
