Penguin Recordings's video: Wine VS Windows : Heroes Of The Storm Benchmark with a GTX 680

@Wine VS Windows : Heroes Of The Storm Benchmark with a GTX 680
We take a look at running Heroes Of The Storm in Wine 1.8 RC3 against running it natively in Windows 10. Timeline: 1. Intro 0:00 2. Max Settings 0:39 3. Side-by-side comparison (Max settings) 0:54 4. Min Settings 1:24 5. Side-by-side comparison (Min settings) 1:39 6. Summary 2:09 The following Nvidia drivers were used: Windows 10 Pro with 355.98 drivers Ubuntu 15.04 with 358.16 drivers There are no graphs, as I was not able to record framerates over a duration. GLXOSD seems to refuse to collect framerates when it comes to WINE. To keep things fair, settings remained the same on both platforms. V-Sync and Anti-Aliasing was disabled on both. Wine 1.8 RC3 was used, and was a clean prefix. Nothing was installed via winetricks or POL. This should be reproducible with little effort. GLXOSD was used for the frame counter on Wine, and MSI Afterburner was used for the frame counter on Windows. I recorded my screen using my Canon SX50HS Powershot camera, so that performance would not be affected. All hardware on this computer is the same. The game is being run from a 1TB Western Digital Green Caviar HDD on both systems, so no hardware discrepancy should exist. On Ubuntu, the CPU governor is set to Performance. For Windows, Power Settings is set to High Performance. Maximum settings means cranking everything ON and to the Highest setting possible. My verdict: While Blizzard games are known to run in WINE, and HoTs is no exception to that, it is blazingly clear that it suffers in terms of performance. I may have made mistakes, and if I have done so, please forgive me and correct me in the comments. I've tried to do this benchmark and review to the best of my knowledge and capabilities.
