Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA)'s video: Dr Brittany Webb TK Smith: Monumental Futures PAFA - Art At Noon

@Dr. Brittany Webb, TK Smith: Monumental Futures | PAFA - Art At Noon
What is the relationship between historic monuments, activism, and contemporary art? Monuments—as heritage, artifact, or art—constitute an extension of state power. They have become hyper visible as people across the world demand their governments address systematic inequality, injustice, and erasure. On the occasion of ART PAPERS’ Fall/ Winter issue “Monumental Interventions” co-editor and contributor TK Smith and Dr. Brittany Webb, Evelyn and Will Kaplan Curator of Twentieth-Century Art, will discuss how activists and artists are pushing the discourse with contemporary acts of iconoclasm and the production of innovative monumental art works. Expanding on the themes of the issue, they will discuss the long history of artist interventions into the language, form, and function of public monuments to speculate monumental futures.
