Perfect Little Planet's video: Lake Titicaca Floating Islands and Taquile Peru

@Lake Titicaca Floating Islands and Taquile | Peru
We rode around on a boat made of reeds taken from the lake. The same reeds that make up the floating islands of Uros that people live on! Lake Titicaca is such a unique experience! Here are some time stamps for our adventures on Lake Titicaca: 0:01 - Intro, scenes from around Lake Titicaca (Peru side) 0:30 - Uros, the floating islands 1:04 - Cruising around on a boat made of reeds 1:42 - Learning about local crafts 2:15 - Another floating island with a coffee shop, powered by solar power 2:50 - Scenes from our 2-hour trip across the lake (to Taquile Island) 3:28 - Taquile Island 4:38 - Hiking across the island, talking to locals and sheep 6:25 - More exploring Taquile Island 7:09 - Arches of Taquile Island 7:34 - Leaving Taquile, more beautiful scenes of Lake Titicaca **Lake Titicaca Floating Islands** It was raining so hard at the floating islands that my microphone got soaked and it was difficult to hear anything, so I cut the audio and decided to put the info here. First off, the islands really are floating on the lake. The local Uro people gather totora reeds from around the lake and weave them together. They criss-cross the reeds to make a sturdy platform. Every 2 weeks, a new layer is added because the bottom layers start to decay over time. The islands range in thickness from 18 inches (.5 meter) to 6 feet (2 meters). The floating islands don't move all around the lake, as I thought in the video. I learned that they are anchored in place with sharp sticks and long rope. They stay in the same general area - close to the reeds and protected in the bay of Puno. One of the locals joked with me saying she doesn't have a passport, so she's not allowed to float across to Bolivia. The houses on the floating islands are also made of the same totora reeds. The boat at 1:04 has a base made up of the same totora reeds as the islands. These are bound together tightly so they can build a wooden frame on top of it. **Taquile Island** Taquile Island is known for its textiles and fine handicrafts. Interestingly, only the men are allowed to knit on the island. The women spin and dye the wool, but only the men create the finished product. This is unique, since everywhere else we encountered knitting, it was the women doing everything (we learned all about textiles on our way to Machu Picchu: https://youtu.be/dwZFOwxAZK4). **What's going on?** I'm on a business trip with some friends from school. We're visiting a lot of companies and learning about business in Peru and all of Latin America. Between business visits, we're exploring and eating all the food. :) Click here to watch all the videos in the Peru playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMNCzU91Iy4&list=PLqUGFHMGYjkfJ1yz6syHmBPCgnwSuUmOm Thanks for watching!
