It's the talk of New York, the dance called "Poppin' the Cork." Sung by Mary Cole (1913-1975), with Henry King Orchestra. “Poppin’ the Cork,” a musical short subject, was filmed in Astoria, Queens. It was released December 15, 1933, within days of the ratification of the 21st Amendment, ending the increasing unpopular 18th Amendment of January 16, 1919. At the time of filming, band leader Henry King was performing nightly in the "Grill Neptune" of the Hotel Pierre on Fifth Avenue and East 61st Street. The song “Poppin’ the Cork" was written by Benny Davis (words) and James F. Hanley (music).
