Pietro Pecco's video: Archaeological Site of Delphi Delphi Phocis Greece Europe

@Archaeological Site of Delphi, Delphi, Phocis, Greece, Europe
Delphi is an important archaeological site, as well as a historic city of ancient Greece, home to the most important and revered oracle of the god Apollo, together with Didima. Located in Phocis on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, about 130 km northwest of Athens and 600 m a.s.l. at the crossroads of ancient communication routes. In ancient times Delphi was thought to be the center of the world, so it was home to the omphalos or navel of the world. The founder of Delphi is the mythical king Delfo son of Poseidon and Melanto, to lie with her the god of the seas transformed himself into a dolphin whose name has an obvious appeal. However, the myth of Delphi and of the oracle comes from Apollo's intervention against the dragon-serpent Python, son of Gea. Apollo decided to kill him as she had undermined her mother Latona while she was pregnant with him. He lived on Mount Parnassus and Apollo with his arrows made him flee to Delphi which took its name from Delfine the dragon-companion of Python. Apollo also chased him into the temple. Mother Earth, outraged, asked for the intervention of Zeus who not only ordered Apollo to be purified in Tempe, but instituted the Pythian games in honor of Python, forcing Apollo to preside over them as penance. Apollo, after having purified himself, went to look for the god Pan, from whom he obtained the secrets of the divinatory art, becoming the protector and creator of the Delphic oracle forcing the priestess, called pythoness or Pythia, to serve him. Apollo's feat then earned him the nickname of Pizio or Pitico. According to another version, Apollo jumped on a ship in the form of a dolphin and took it to Crisa, the port of Delphi. Here he leapt straight to the temple in the form of a young man consecrating the Cretan crew as priests.[6] Also from Apollo comes the myth of the source Castalia who was a nymph of the trees and lived on Mount Parnassus, Apollo threatened her and she threw herself from Parnassus being transformed into a source. The aforementioned source then became famous as a place of inspiration for poets. Delphi is also the place where the remains of Zagreo were buried, divinity daughter of Persephone and Zeus torn to pieces by the envy of the Titans. Here the omphalos is also present both as and as a concept linked to the myth, because the city was considered the navel of the world. The omphalos was the stone made to swallow by Rhea to Cronus thus hiding Zeus who, having become an adult, with the intention of freeing the brothers swallowed by his father, made him drink a drink that made him vomit. In addition to the Titans Cronus spat omphalos who fell at Delphi. Phlegias, whose daughter Coronis was seduced and impregnated by Apollo, then to avenge her subsequent death attempted to set fire to the temple of Apollo. However, this gesture was not forgiven so much that the god, after riddled with arrows, threw him into Tartarus. 00:00 Roman Agora 00:43 Exedra of the Kings of Argos 00:53 Sicyonian Treasury 01:07 Treasury of the Boeotians 01:20 Treasury of Thebes 01:41 Megarian Treasury 01:51 Athenian Treasury 02:14 The Halos 02:34 Stoa of the Athenians 02:44 Serpentine column of Plataea 03:35 Temple of Apollo 05:00 Pillar of Prusias II 05:22 Offering of Crateros 05:41 The Theater 07:28 The Stadium 08:59 Tholos
