@Airline Type Rating (9/10) How to Become a Pilot Series
How to Become a Pilot?!๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿฝโ€โœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿ›ซ Part 9: Type Rating Before you can fly a jet at an airline, you will need to do a specialization course (Type Rating) for the type of aircraft you are going to fly. Some people choose to do a type rating directly after flight school, but I recommend to first apply for pilot jobs and when hired by an airline, do the Type Rating for the airplane type they fly. Airlines that hire low-experienced pilots, will provide a Type Rating - either funded by the airline or by the pilot. Tomorrow Iโ€™ll talk about how to find a pilot job! ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿผโ€โœˆ๏ธ The Type Rating starts with theory about the airplane, about all the systems and the Standard Operational Procedures. How to set up the cockpit for a flight, how to do the system tests and how to work with the Flight Management Computer. โŒจ๏ธ After the theory exam, you will go into a simulator. The full-motion simulator is really similar to the real aircraft and youโ€™ll learn how to fly the jet, practice the procedures and how to cope with system malfunctions and emergencies. โš ๏ธ Every simulator session you are expected to improve, so in the time between the sessions you should really continue to study, to read the feedback of the previous simulator session to see how you can improve and learn from your previous mistakes. โŽโžก๏ธโœ… After you pass your skill test, the best flight of your life is coming up: The Base Training, 6 Touch & Goโ€™s with an empty airplane! ๐Ÿ›ฌ๐Ÿ›ซ The last part of the airline Type Rating is the Operator Conversion Course, where you learn more about companyโ€™s procedures and you will do a safety training (fire fighting ๐Ÿ”ฅ evacuation training ๐Ÿ†˜ and first aid ๐Ÿฅ). A type rating usually takes 6-8 weeks. When you receive the licence with your type rating, you can start flying! ๐Ÿ›ซ Within the airline you will start Line Training. Youโ€™ll take the right seat in the cockpit, with a line training captain on the left seat and a safety pilot on the jumpseat to check if all goes well. ๐Ÿ‘€ After 125 hours you have the line check. An examiner tests your skills, knowledge of the airplane and the procedures. ๐Ÿ“Š From then, you are fully qualified to fly on the line and enjoy your pilot career! ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€โœˆ๏ธ
