Korean cultural experience trip in Hamyang! Have you stayed at a traditional hanok before? Have you learned about the art of making pine wine? Have you listened and sang along to the Korean folk song Arirang? This cultural trip was truly the experience! Hamyang probably isn't your first choice for a vacation in Korea. However, if you really want a traditional and cultural taste of Korea's ancient hanoks, brewery art and nature, this is a nice pick. Thanks to the GOE, our little group of foreign teachers had the chance at this getaway. We learned so much about the history of the place. The food was delicious! And the walk through nature was like a stroll through the ancient times-- as if we too were cultured scholars. We also got to admire the beautiful acoustics of the gayageum (가야금) and play a competition game of yuk! Information: 1. Old Confucian School: 남계서원 Nam Gye Suh Won 2. Brewery(also the home of the Master): 솔송주/명가원 Sol Song Ju/Myung Ga Won Fun facts: - Arirang is a traditional folk song and different regions of Korea have their own versions of the song. - Hamyang has the most pavilions in Korea. - The art of making the pine wine has a long 500 year history.
