Proverbs 8;36 is perhaps the most telling summary for all the other alternate answers to what happens to us when we die. On one hand, the Hindus, Buddhists and New Agers believe that we reincarnate and die numerous times until our personality and uniqueness are erased, at which point we are finally assimilated into a Universal Consciousness ("self" ultimately dies). On the other hand, the Atheists say that death is final - both of these views embrace and glorify death and thus its adherents do not love God at all. Rather, they actually hate God and love death.
