Joe Carseni the Chairman. There is a saying Mighty oaks from little acorns grow, how true. Little did we imagine that our humble Song Festival, revived in 2007, would become what it is today year, nearly 700 songs were received from all over the world to compete in our Festival. This makes me and my team very proud to be part of this venture. Once again, from the myriad songs received, the independent panel of musicians has selected a song from Gibraltar for the finals Gala. Such is the calibre of our songwriters and lyricists. Our independent panels of judges come from the UK, Chile, Las Canarias and Gibraltar. I do not envy them their task, as the calibre of the finalist songs surpasses anything we have received in precious years. Again this year, we are going out live via the internet to a potential audience world wide of over one hundred million viewers. I would like to think that the Gibraltar International Song festival has come of age and the future of its success is secure. Every year we endeavor to make the show ever more professional. This year, you will hear 14 winning songs from various countries competing for the coveted prizes. The quality, variety and professionalism of the songwriters and singers are in the top echelons of the music world. Bjorn Again are our guest artists this time round, singing all Abba’s great songs. They have been universally acclaimed and are a hit wherever they perform. Of course, none of this would be possible without the help and involvement of the Ministry of Culture, the Stadium Authorities and my hard-working team. We know you will enjoy the performance and that is reward enough for us.
