Yet we let it run into gutters and sewers. Then children are taught "Rain Rain go away come again another day". Save rainwater or Rainwater harvesting is not a slogan we hear. When we don't save rainwater the water table falls resulting in a dangerous cycle where each year the water table falls a little more. How does drought happen? Poor rainfall is not the answer... inability of existing building to capture or trap and send to earth even a single drop of rainwater is the correct answer. India gets some of the heaviest rainfall in the world, especially along the Konkan and in the North East. India also has some of the highest and biggest rainwater harvesting structures built anywhere in the world. Most traditional houses had rainwater harvesting built into it. British raj put an end to the construction of Rainwater harvesting system in India and also destroyed India agriculture. British engineered famines to kill 19 million Indians in 10 years. In comparison Hitler killed 6 million Jews. We are also killing our water harvesting insects like termites, dung beetle, ants, earth-burrowing earthworms, rats and snake which help in water harvesting by digging into the ground and creating tunnels in the soil and harvesting rainwater. Agriculture Institutes in India are wrongly teaching to use surface crawlers (vermiculture) which is inferior to deep burrowing earthworm. A farmer without a pond is not a farmer.
