Green Poha Plate Idli is super-soft and spongy! Peanut tomato chutney is a creamy, protein-rich dip, great not only with idlis but with dosa, uttapam, sandwiches, parathas too! You need just a tablespoon of oil for a complete meal of these idlis and peanut tomato chutney for a family of four! , , , Ingredients for idli: Frozen/fresh peas 1 cup Thick poha 1/2 cup Green chilies (4) Suji/semolina 1/2 cup Yogurt/curd 1 cup Salt 1 tsp or as per taste Eno fruit salt 1 tsp Water, as required For tempering: Oil 1 tsp Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp Urad dal 3/4 tsp Curry leaves 5-6 recommeded finely chopped peanuts/cashewnuts, as per choice Oil to grease plates water for steaming Ingredients for chutney Peanut/Moongfali 1 cup Oil 1 tsp Garlic cloves 2 Large tomato 1 Salt 1/3 tsp + 1/2 tsp Dry red chilies 3 water as required Tempering for chutney Oil 1 tsp Mustard seeds 1 tsp Urad dal 1/2 tsp Curry leaves 5-6 ( recommended) lemon juice 2 tsp Method: 1. Soak poha and peas separately for 15 minutes. 2. Drain poha and peas. 3. Blend drained poha, peas and green chilies to a coarse paste. tip: do not add water while blending 4. Add semolina and yogurt to the paste. Mix well and allow to rest for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes 5. Make tempering for idli the same way as explained for chutney below. 6. Transfer tempering to paste. 7. Add water to adjust consistency. 8. Add salt and eno. Add 1 tbsp water to activate eno. 9. Mix well in one direction. 10. Transfer idli mix to greased plates. Fill up plates only to half the height of plate to allow for rising. 12. Place plates in steamer in which water should already be boiling. 13. Steam for 20 minutes or as required. Allow to cool a little before de moulding. TIPS: Add eno only to the amount of batter that is going in the steamer. I steamed idlis in 2 batches so I added only half the amount of salt and eno in each batch. One could steam all the batter at once in a dhokla stand which has 3-4 big plates. In this recipe only poha and semolina would rise, not the peas!! Therefore, the rise in this plate idli will not be the same as one would see in a idli made only with semolina or rice& dal. Method to make Peanut Tomato chutney: 1. Dry roast peanuts (heat between low and medium) till they get a nice color, and remove to a plate. 2. When warm, rub peanuts between your palms to remove skin from roasted peanuts. 3. Set a pan to heat at between low and medium. 4. Add a tsp of oil to warm pan. 5. Add garlic cloves. Fry. 6. Add whole red chilies. Fry 7. Add chopped tomatoes. Add 1/3 tsp salt, and 2 tbsp water. Cover with a lid. Cook till tomatoes soften. 8. Switch off heat and allow to cool. 9. Blend this tomato paste with skinless peanuts, first using pulse feature and then with long press. Add water as required to get desired consistency. Tempering for chutney: Set pan to heat at low. Add 1 tsp oil to warm pan. Add mustard seeds to warm oil. let them splutter Add urad dal and curry leaves. Fry. Add 1/4 tsp salt. Transfer tempering to chutney. Add lemon juice. Stir and enjoy!
