Portland Choir & Orchestra's video: Ellis Island: The Dream of America coming June 18 presented by Portland Choir Orchestra

June is Immigrant Heritage Month, and Portland Choir & Orchestra is proud to present a totally unique concert experience: “Ellis Island: The Dream of America” in Portland on June 18 at 2pm and at 7pm The concert celebrates the American immigrant experience, and features one of the most performed American orchestral works of the last 15 years: “Ellis Island The Dream of America,” by Peter Boyer. The concert will use a very innovative format: bringing elements of both theater and multimedia into the concert hall, projecting historical images from the Ellis Island archives, and using actors to perform the words of actual American immigrants, sharing their experience in the first person, as if the immigrants were with us, telling us their stories directly. Did you know that more than 40% of all people living in the United States today—over 100 million people—can trace their roots to an ancestor who came through Ellis Island? So the stories you will hear in the concert may be very similar to the actual stories of your immigrant ancestors. And we will weave these stories together with a variety of contemporary American choral works by composers like John Williams, Mack Wilberg and Dan Forrest. You will come away from the concert proud to be an American, and grateful for America’s immigrant heritage. You won’t want to miss it.
