Positive Fishing's video: RELAXING Flyfishing for freshwater Barramundi WA BEST way to spend the day thatflyfishingguy

@RELAXING Flyfishing for freshwater Barramundi, WA. BEST way to spend the day! #thatflyfishingguy
Watching Johnno Fly Fishing from the Drone was a wonderful relaxing way to spend the afternoon, so I hope you enjoy it just as much. Something a little bit different, it was such a lovely afternoon for all of us, let us know in comments below what you think? To check out the less Relaxing morning fishing, when our very excitable 1 year old Mastiff learns to fish, watch the episode before this. Fly fishing for freshwater barramundi, commonly known as "barra," is Johnno's favorite pass time, well one of them. He ties his own flies, check out the selection in his box, all made by himself. John Marven Some things to think about: 1. Location: Look for structure such as submerged logs, rocky outcrops, or weed beds, as barramundi often hide in these areas.....they weren't hiding this day ;) Johnno is always researching new, interesting, remote places to fish, I (Karen) love the wild places his passion takes us! 2. Equipment: Johnno was using a Sage XI3 8wt Fly Rod this day, with a Nautilus CCF 10 reel. (He likes to over weight his reels to make the rod more balanced). He has a range from 3wt to 16wt. (For whiting to Marlin....but he has caught BARRA on his 3wt as well!) He was using weight forward intermediate SA line, fluorocarbon leader, because it sinks better than mono. Any questions about equipment best placed in comments below and I'll get Johnno to answer. 3. Flies: Barramundi feed on a variety of prey, including small fish, prawns, and insects. Johnno had a lot of interest (fish swimming up to his fly but not eating it) before he found the right one for the day, A small shrimp. He carries a large variety of different style, size & colors because the waters we fish are constantly changing. Going back to the same spot a week later does not mean the same fly will work. Water levels & temperatures change quickly up here this time of year. 4. Casting: Barramundi can be found in shallow or deep water, so be prepared to cast in various depths. Practice your casting skills to accurately deliver your fly close to structure or in areas where barramundi are likely to be lurking. Long and accurate casts are often necessary....but as you will see on this day long casts not so necessary!! Finding the fish close is always good for fun sight fishing!! 5. Retrieve: Experiment with different retrieve techniques to entice barramundi. A slow retrieve with occasional pauses often works well. Barramundi are ambush predators and prefer an easy meal, so make your fly imitate injured prey by adding twitching or jerking motions.Johnno recommends the smallest stripe possible, fast and twitchy....so it is not moving fast but jumping around a lot. Again every location is different. 6. Patience and Persistence: Keep trying different locations, flies, and techniques until you find what works best for you....or find where the barra are feeding! Remember to check local fishing regulations and obtain any necessary licenses before heading out. Respect the environment and take your rubbish home with you!
