Intr-un sat, departe de Londra, traia o vaduva impreuna cu fiul ei, Jack. Fiindca erau prea saraci si casa nu moara de foame, mama il trimite pe Jack sa vanda vaca la targ. Pe drum, Jack vinde vaca pe cateva boabe de fasole, frumos colorate. Mama cand vede prostia fiului ei, se infurie si-i da peste mana lui Jack; boabele ii cazura pe pamant. A doua zi de dimineata, Jack descoperi ca boabele incoltisera! Vrejul de fasole crescuse umitor de mult, ajungand pana dincolo de nori!
