Spiritual Autonomy or Attachment Part 1 of a series of conversations with Jac O'Keeffe and Prajna O'Hara on the evolution of women in spiritual leadership. In this conversation they talk about: • Two versions of Catholic background that was experienced as Patriarchal, dominant head in the sand religion. One that led Jac to throw the baby out with the bathwater and to become an Atheist. "There was no space for autonomy and to submit own ideas, opinions or personal analysis. She questioned, where is God in these teachings? She felt control, dominance, judgment. Received her Theology degree and announced, "I'm done." • At age 30 profound spiritual experience knocked her socks off, turned life upside down initiating her through a variety of spiritual modalities of inquiry, etc. • She met the inquiry of choosing to be a mother or not. The failure to find historical models of women with children in spiritual leadership did not appear in her investigation. • In her marriage at the time she was pulled into a deep need to unpack roles of identity and if she could have full autonomy amidst relationship or is this compensation? • Jac and prajna unpack what is attachment? • Are we willing to have our own autonomy, our own identity independent of those around us? • Or do we define and find comfort in the roles we play wether that be lover, mother, teacher, partner,... for some reassurance? • They end this conversation by suggesting that the we can play out any role, what matters is how we are relating to it and from it. What is it serving? • Jac and Prajna teach and lead from their direct experience.
