Behold, Damascus will be taken away, and it will no longer be a city, but a heap of ruins. 2 - The cities of Aroer will be abandoned; they will be for the flocks that will lie down without anyone scaring them away. 3 - And the fortress of Ephraim will cease, as will the kingdom of Damascus and the rest of Syria; they will be like the glory of the children of Israel, says the LORD of hosts. 4 - And that day Jacob's glory will be diminished, and the fat of his flesh will be thin. 5 - For he will be like the reaper who reaps the cane of wheat and with his arm mows the ears; and it will also be like the one who picks ears in the Rephaim valley. 6 - But there will still be some scribbles in it, as in the shaking of the olive tree: two or three olives on the highest end of the branches, and four or five on its most fruitful branches, says the Lord God of Israel. 7 - In that day man will look to his Creator, and his eyes will look on the Holy One of Israel. 8 - And he will not look at the altars, the work of his hands, nor look at what his fingers did, nor at the woods, nor at the images. 9 - On that day their fortified cities will be like abandoned places, in the woods or on the top of the mountains, which were abandoned before the children of Israel; and there will be devastation. 10 - Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not remembered the rock of your fortress, therefore you will make beautiful plantings, and you will settle on strange branches. 11 - And on the day that you plant them, you will make them grow, and in the morning you will cause your seed to sprout; but the harvest will fly in the day of anguish and unsearchable pain. 12 - Woe to the roaring of the great peoples who roar as the seas roar, and the roar of the nations that roar as the fiery waters roar. 13 - The nations will roar, as many waters roar, but God will rebuke them and they will flee far away; and they will be driven away like the plague of the mountains in the face of the wind, and like that carried by the typhoon. 14 - At dusk, behold, there is dread, but before dawn it no longer exists; this is the part of those who strip us, and the fate of those who plunder us.
