Princess Diana 97's video: Princess Diana Final Day - Selection of the Ring - CCTV raw footage

On the afternoon and early evening of 30 August 1997, hours before their deaths, Princess Diana and her partner Dodi Fayed spent time in the Imperial Suite of the Ritz Hotel in Paris. During that time, Dodi made a trip to a jewellers on the opposite side of the Place Vendome. He looked at several items of jewellery, including braclets, watches and rings. He chose not to take any of them with him. He later sent Assistant to the President of the Ritz Hotel, Claude Roulet, back to the jewellers to look at some more items. Ultimately, Roulet was given a diamond encrusted ring which was considerably cheaper than the other items viewed and was already being worn by the jeweller's wife. That ring was later chosen by Dodi and now forms part of the memorial to Diana and Dodi in Harrods. Paul walks over the Mercedes that will take Dodi. 15:56 Dodi emerges from the Imperial Suite and goes downstairs with Rees-Jones but comes immediately back in as the car is not ready. Henri Paul is waiting as the car pulls up and Dodi and Rees-Jones depart. Dodi Al Fayed looks in display cases and various items of jewellery are taken out and placed on the display tables. 30:25 Dodi shakes hands with the Jeweller and a female member of staff, he then takes his sunglasses from the same display table and takes the brochure and leaves. Dodi was not seen to take any item of jewellery or place anything in his pocket. There was no presentation of an item by the Jeweller or any other staff member. All the items viewed were taken from the display cabinets. 31:45 Dodi is seen in the Ritz Hotel ascending the main stairway with a brochure. 32:30 Roulet remains in the shop for a further 5 minutes 12 seconds until 17:56:12. He sits at the display table with the items pointed out by Dodi Al Fayed and seems to be writing. 37:05 Roulet, who has remained seated throughout, gets up and leaves. He is not seen to take anything with him other than a document.The items packed remain on the display table. 38:30 Roulet arrives back at the hotel. He goes upstairs and enters the Imperial Suite to talk to Dodi. He is in the Suite for 4 minutes, 26 seconds. He goes back downstairs holding a brochure. 45:30 Roulet returns to the Imperial Suite for 4 minutes, 40 seconds. It is inferred from Roulet's subsequent witness statements he was told by Dodi to return to the shop to negotiate discounts and collect the items for Diana's viewing. Second visit: Time in the shop for Claude Roulet: 8 minutes 24 seconds - from 18:32:16 to 18:40:40. 49:55 Claude Roulet enters and goes downstairs. The Jeweller and his wife are present and both are actively involved in what takes place. 50:42 After a discussion with Roulet, the Jeweller gets his jewellery case from the office and takes items from it that he shows to Roulet. 54:30 The jeweller goes back into the office and returns with his wife who shows Roulet her right hand. It seems something is taken from her hand... 55:30 Claude Roulet then picks up and closely inspects the item and the jeweller goes into the office briefly and returns with an advertising sheet, which in the presence of the Jeweller's wife, he shows to Claude Roulet, the advertising sheet they are looking at has been identified as the ‘Dis-moi Oui’ (Tell me Yes) advertisement. 56:10 The Jeweller's wife packs into a bag the items that Claude Roulet has just been viewing and leaves the packed bag on the table next to Roulet. 58:35 Claude Roulet and the Jeweller shake hands and he picks up the packed bag and leaves the shop. 1:03:30 Roulet returns to the Imperial Suite for about 3 minutes. He later stated Dodi only chose the 'Tell Me Yes' ring to show to Diana. Roulet then goes to the hotel strong room to deposit the other items. After the tragedy, on 3 September the Jeweller retrieved the other items from the Ritz and Mohammed Al Fayed purchased the 'Tell Me Yes' ring to later incorporate it into the Harrods memorial.
