The Sports Sphere Series | Alice Tai - Crying At Her First Race ********************************************** πŸ”” In this episode of The Sports Sphere Webinar Highlight Series, we interview Alice Tai about crying at her first race. Listen to the complete episode here - https://youtu.be/VsP3omDrpe4 πŸ”” She broke onto the scene in 2014 with a strong performance at the 2014 IPC Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven, winning three European medals at the age of just 15. πŸ”” Her success with 100m backstroke silver and 400m freestyle bronze in the S10 class in Eindhoven was then followed by her first gold with the British 4x100m freestyle relay 34pt quartet. πŸ”” A highly successful debut IPC Swimming World Championships at Glasgow 2015 came in the form of four medals, including gold in the 4x100m medley relay 34pt alongside three individual bronze medals. πŸ”” She made her Paralympic debut at Rio 2016 where she competed in five events, winning relay gold in the women’s 4x100m medley relay (34pts) alongside teammates Claire Cashmore, Steph Slater and Stephanie Millward. The highlight from her individual events was the 100m backstroke S9, where she won bronze. Alice was awarded an MBE for her services to swimming in December of 2016. πŸ”” At the 2018 European Championships in Dublin, Tai stormed to four European titles, adding to her medal haul from the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, where she won gold and silver. πŸ”” Alice has continued her flying form into 2019 with the most outstanding performance to date on home soil with seven Golds at the World Para Swimming Championships. A stand out performance that has seen her bring home multiple accolades including The Sunday Times Disability Sportswoman of the Year, Sports Journalist Awards Best Achievement in Para Sport, a nomination for the Laureus Sports Awards Disability category and excitingly the first para-athlete to win British Swimming’s Athlete of the Year in 2019. πŸ”” Away from sport Alice plays a number of musical instruments and is part of a band called Blush.
