Gigue Sound Engineer & Recording Producer: Andreas Werner ABOUT THE RECORDING Bach's extraordinary cycle played on an extraordinary instrument: the legendary Stradivari cello "Bonamy Dobrée-Suggia 1717". Guilhermina Suggia - already the name sounds exotic and mysterious. The Portuguese cellist (1885-1950) played a wonderful instrument from the workshop of the legendary musical instrument maker Antonio Stradivari. Outwardly extravagant and jumpy, yet extremely intelligent and warm-hearted, Suggia lived many lives: in Paris as Pablo Casals' pupil and lover, in London as Grande Dame and cosmopolitan, in Porto as the yearning and home-seeking. The Swiss cellist Maja Weber had the opportunity to play this special instrument of the legendary Portuguese musician for many years. Now she has - as the "crowning glory" of this musical liaison - recorded one of the most outstanding works of literature for solo cello: the six suites by Johann Sebastian Bach. Since these works were composed at about the same time as Antonio Stradivari built the Suggia cello, the recording adds an additional charm. By the way, the Stradivari cello "Bonamy Dobrée-Suggia" is owned the Stradivari Foundation Habisreutinger. After Maja Weber, cellist Sol Gabetta will now be allowed to play this wonderful instrument in the coming years.
