During the hearing before the High Court on petitions challenging the reservations in certain wards of 5 municipal councils, Goa State Election Commission and Goa government have admitted that reservations notified for women is not in accordance with the mandate of the constitution. As Constitution mandates reservation for women should not be less than 33.33%, but in several municipal councils it is less. Now, the High Court has asked the Election Commission to decide whether it wants to ask Director of Municipal Administration to rectify the discrepancies.
