Pushkin House's video: Ben Phillips on London s migr s and exiles from Russia 1881-1917

@Ben Phillips on London's émigrés and exiles from Russia, 1881-1917
In this talk, in collaboration with the Anglo-Russian Research Network, Ben Phillips gives us a history of the community of Russian political exiles and émigrés in London at the end of the 19th and start of the 20th centuries. With characters such as Lenin, Herzen and Kropotkin all living in the city at the time, it was a hotbed for political activity - and the Tsarist secret police were not far behind. The Q&A is introduced and moderated by Rafy Hay, Pushkin House's director of programming. Dr Ben Phillips is a lecturer in Russian at the University of Exeter, and his forthcoming book, Inventing Revolutionary Russia: Siberian Exile and the Transnational Mythologies of Russian Radicalism 1825-1917, will be published by Routledge in 2021.
