R3ciprocity Team's video: Feeling Embarrassed As A Grad Student Or A Professor How To Deal With Embarrassment

@Feeling Embarrassed As A Grad Student Or A Professor. How To Deal With Embarrassment.
We often feel that we have much to lose in graduate school, and consequently, we can feel embarrassed by our actions in academia. What I am referring to with embarrassment is the feelings you get when you are self-conscious and it brings up feelings of deep rooted shame. For me, telling my stories and being open with you can feel quite embarrassing. I often do not know how people will interpret my actions. Some like these actions but others might interpret them rather negatively. What I have learned is that feelings of embarrassment is really a function of who you are and how you were raised. Here are ways to deal with embarrassment that I think are important. Know that you are just a regular person and we all have fears and things we feel shameful about. The more you are open about these feelings, the more you feel relieved that you shared these feelings. Often we feel shamed about things we are hiding inside. I have to remind myself that embarrassment is just an emotion and you have to know that your emotions are just that. They do not control your actions. If people treat you poorly, it is their problems that are triggering those feelings inside them. Your ideas are always going to be imperfect and there is no right or wrong to explore the world. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements. https://r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money. The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
