Deliver lineout the ball to the halfback from a fully extended arm position Former All Black hooker, Crusaders assistant coach and current Hurricanes head coach, Mark Hammett, takes you inside with the Crusaders to demonstrate an effective lineout drill. The focus is on jumpers delivering the ball to the halfback from a fully extended arm position. This reduces the chances of the opposition disrupting the ball. These key skills are reinforced consistently in the Canterbury and Crusader environment and can be taught to players of all levels. Level: All Levels Categories: Lineouts Coaching Points: 00:0:14.000 - The hooker must aim to throw the ball high enough and accurately enough to fully extend the catcher 00:0:13.000 - Ensure the jumpers are set up on a slight angle for catch and delivery Common Faults: . Jumper not strong through core and lead to instability through jump . Upper body not on a 45 to allow accurate distribution to half back Progressions: . Make it into a competition eg Best of 5 . Have a hooker to throw the ball in to one of the groups Instructions: . Set up with a hooker, two competing jumpers and one halfback all on their knees. . The hooker throws the ball to the jumper with the halfback who in turn delivers the ball to him. . The competing jumper attempts to knock the ball out of the catchers’ hands. This will happen if the catcher does not have straight arms on his catch and delivery Contributors: . As a coach Mark has experienced great success with the Crusaders and was appointed head coach of the Hurricanes in 2011.
