Drinking toddy in rural Kerala. Toddy is an alcoholic drink made from palm tree sap. It has a pungent taste and definitely needs an acquired taste. It goes well with fried spicy meat dishes. A warning though; it can get you highly intoxicated and dehydrated. It's hard to find decent toddy shops as it is highly regulated by the anti-alcoholic government of Kerala as well as the shop owners compromising quality for quantity to meet demand. So, why would you drink it then? Its all about the experience. You get to socialise with the locals, eat some game meat, and (if you are lucky) you can even burst into a song and dance with the merry drunks.
