Belarus took the first place in the world as to alcohol consumption with 17.5 liters of pure alcohol per capita; with vodka coming in as the most popular drink. ☮Moldova: Moldovans drink nearly three times the global average of 6.1 liters per person per year. That amounts more than 18 liters of pure alcohol per year. ☮Lithuania reported consumption of alcohol at around 15.4 liters per capita per year. Lithuania was second only to Austria in terms of the percentage of drinkers who engaged in binge-drinking. ☮Russia: Drinking is a way of life in Russia. Not something that's necessarily done for enjoyment, but something that's stoically endured. Hard drinking has long been a Russian habit. Russians drank 15.1 liters of alcohol per capita in 2010, among the highest averages in the world. ☮Romanians consume around 14.4 liters of pure alcohol per capita annually. Drinking rates among younger Romanians were particularly high. A popular traditional alcohol called plica or switka, is a distilled brandy of about 40% alcohol content made from apples, pears, and plums. Nestled between Spain and France and playing hosts to many tourists per year. Andorra holds this spot on the list due to a love of wine. Most Andorrans prefer wine over other alcoholic beverages. ☮ Hungarians consumed an average of 13.3 liters of alcohol per person per year. Hungary has the largest percentage of the population suffering from alcohol-related disorders than any other contender on this list. ☮Czech Republic: Alcohol per capita consumption is 13.0 liters. Czech females drink more alcohol per capita than any other country on this list, and the country comes in at number three for binge drinking. ☮Slovakian Alcohol per capita consumption per year is 13.0 liters. Tied with the Czech Republic. The most popular alcohol in Slovakia is spirits. In general, residents had bad drinking habits. More than 10% of people 15 years and older in the country had alcohol use disorders, including alcohol dependency.
