Most of these narratives come from and merge into the everyday livelihood of the folk. This could be seen in the sufi/bhakti songs of the landscape as well. Landscape of any particular region defines and moulds the life of people; this could be seen in the song as well. The speaker is meditating on the arrival of the beloved, the one who would travel from afar. Mobility in the desert is extremely peculiar to the region, the vast deserted land makes it difficult for people to move from one place to another, and with such complexities most of the journeys are/were covered on foot or on camels. Different regions from within Rajasthan are talked about in the song and the same is connected to this deep seated longing for the lover who is identified as a ‘pardesi’, meaning the one who resides in a different ‘des’. Often the word ‘des’ is used for states, and this suggests how the lover has travelled afar maybe for work and would arrive on camels, horses, and even ‘jyaz’ (aeroplane). People relocate extensively for work and source of income, but being the land that houses a large number of nomadic groups it could also suggest that the one who is awaited travels for basic sustenance of life. Dapu Khan Mirasi belonged to Bhadli village, he has been associated with the string instrument ‘kamaicha’ for more than 30 years. Among a plethora of bowed string instruments that are mostly associated with folk music, kamaicha is one of the oldest in the world. ______________ Vocal & Khamaicha: Dapu Khan Khartal: Kasam Khan --------------- Connect with us - Subscribe & Click the notification bell: https://www.youtube.com/rajasthankabiryatra Website: https://www.rajasthankabiryatra.org Donate to us: http://www.rajasthankabiryatra.org/do... ________________________________ Follow us on Social Media – Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rajasthankabiryatra/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RajasthanKabirYatra/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/kabiryatra ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rajasthan Kabir Yatra is a 7 days-long annual traveling folk music festival spread across six rural and urban locations in and around Rajasthan.
