This lullaby composed by Purandara Dasa (Kannada: 1484 – 1565)… for hundreds of years at the Udupi Shri Krishna temple , the Lord has been going to sleep listening to lullabies, during the Eekanta seva-sayanootsava puja. This is the last ritual in the Udupi Shri Krishna Temple… a golden cradle behind the Channakeshava entrance is where lord Krishna rests The public does not have access to this place. Hence it is known as eekanta seevaa, worship in seclusion. When the cradle is rocked by the Swamiji musicians sing lullabies. Offerings of milk, sandal paste, sandal oil, holy leaves, nutmeg, cloves, perfume etc an aarati is performed to marks the end of fourteen part daily services… closing by 1100 pm and next day starts at 4 am.
