A Tornado is a violently rotating column of air, that looks like a funnel and is in contact with both the surface of the Earth and a Cumulonimbus cloud. Tornadoes occur in all the continents except Antarctica. Around 1,000 tornadoes take place in the United States annually which is the largest in the whole world. The zone where it hit the most is termed as Tornado Alley. Tornadoes are born from a most powerful class of storms known as a supercell thunderstorm. It has a strong rotating updraft of air. In the United States, supercell thunderstorms are easily formed because of the collision of hot moist air that comes from the Gulf of Mexico with the cold air that comes from the rocky mountains.
