Randy Dean's video: The climate AND national security argument for massive increase in governmental solar installations

@The climate AND national security argument for massive increase in governmental solar installations
Climate: a HOT Topic video 5: In this video, I discuss how a massive increase in solar power installations by governmental entities -- not just in the United States -- but around the free nations of planet Earth, could be one of a myriad of solutions that, when put together, could help us solve the climate crisis AND greatly increase our national security (this is something many people pass over). My argument is that every governmental or quasigovernmental location, when either a new build or being renovated, should have a solar power installation as part of the building or renovation. That isn't just for federal buildings, but also state, county, and local/city. It also includes all new or renovated school buildings, college and university buildings, post offices, courthouses, DMVs, and more. And by making this massive investment in solar installations, millions of jobs will likely be created for solar engineers, solar factories, solar technicians, and solar installers -- possibly tens of millions of jobs globally if multiple countries moved in this direction. By doing these installations, not only will we greatly reduce the need for traditional fossil fuel power generation in each of these locations, we also reduce the risk of full city power outages due to either a natural disaster or worse: a rogue state or terrorist attack on our power grids. Rather than have each city or town nearly fully reliant on the centralize power grid, by having this much solar installed, we could move to a more modularized system thus greatly reducing the risk of an attack. AND, if there is a power outage, these schools and governmental buildings will still have at least some power during daytime hours (and maybe longer if equipped with solar battery backups), thus not knocking those locations completely out of service during one of these situations. They could even become "shelters of last resort" for communities during natural disasters. Adding to this line of thinking, I'm also recommending the installation of solar covered parking lots. Pretty much every governmental and school parking lot could have solar covers for power generation, not only supplying the grid with additional power, but also creating the possibility of EV fleets of school buses, postal vehicles, governmental fleets, and more. How many emissions could we get rid of if all governmental vehicles, buses, mail trucks, and more were all now electric vehicles? And going back to the national security argument, many of the worst actors in our current world are basically warlords that have built their war machines due to the profits they make from selling fossil fuels. If we could switch a huge portion of our power needs and production away from fossil fuels, that could help to bankrupt these tyrants and dictators. And that would allow us potentially to reduce the amount of money we have to spend on our military, which means we could reallocate even more resources to solving the climate crisis. We do have fusion power -- it is called "the Sun" -- and we just need to become much better at collecting it and using it. Nothing in the video or description above is beyond our current technology -- all of this could be done right now. Expensive? Sure. But millions of jobs would be created, which would help the economy. But we need to also change our thinking about the costs, because lets consider the costs of NOT making these kinds of investments: flooded coastal cities, droughts, floods, and famines as our food supply becomes increasingly unstable, continued multinational political unrest as tyrants and dictators can keep funding their war machines. And this even makes a very good argument for considering a solar installment at your home -- sure, you'll get power generation and hopefully a big cut in your monthly utility bill. But you'll also be better prepared for natural disasters, civil unrest, and rogue state/terrorist attacks on our power grid. And maybe you could power your new electric vehicle right in your garage using the sun!
