I played Remake on PS5 and never saw a single glitch, bug or anything else that I could possibly critique. Yeah a few times some gore went wild and started freaking out but I figure that's just the result of collision physics in overtime as the bits and pieces ragdolled about. In my entire 11 hour playthrough the only time I can think of when something obviously didn't work was when I first attempted to boot up the game. First time something went wrong, I don't know what and it crashed before I even got to the main menu but I tried again and everything ran smooth as butter. I didn't notice any stuttering at any point and while I did notice some frame dips it was only when transitioning between areas getting on or off the tram or elevators. Nothing that actually affected gameplay. Let's talk about graphics. When you start a fresh playthrough you will get a whole suite of options as is the norm in today's game and one of the first things I did was kill the film grain, kill the motion blur and turn on performance mode. All the while I was playing I thought the game looked great but not the visual masterpiece that folks pre release had made it out to be. Textures just didn't seem that great and everything had kind of a blurriness around it. Turns out that's performance mode at work. Once I beat the game I started a new game plus run just for fun and played about 2 hours with performance mode off and dear god did it make a difference. I honestly wish I had played the game this way. Most games I have played with a performance mode and graphic mode I could barely tell the difference but In Dead Space you can literally see things get more detailed as you toggle the mode off and on. In my opinion this game is such a visual treat and the general gameplay is slope enough enough that performance mode is not necessary. For the best experience leave it off. I cannot speak of course to other systems or PC, this is just my experience on the PS5. Combat is almost all ranged with Issac using a slew of power tools to dismember necromorphs cause head shots aint doing it here. There is a melee option which feels heavy and satisfying but trying to 1 v 1 necromorphs is terrifying as hell. Isaac swings wide and hits hard and with the right weapon upgrades can stun enemies with a strike but close quarters is just too risky for me. I used his curb stomp for opening boxes more than finishing off enemies. You'll have access to a total of 7 weapons each with their own primary fire effect and a secondary fire effect. The plasma cutter, the ripper, the flamethrower, the contact beam, the line gun, the force gun and the pulse rifle. My favorite ended up being the plasma cutter you get as your first weapon just because of how dependable it is. The ripper which is basically what if you could strap a chop saw to your arm and shoot the blades is an amazing weapon and my favorite back up. The flamethrower in Dead Space remake may actually be my favorite flamethrower in any game I have played because even unupgraded it got me out of some seriously tight situations as a crowd control weapon. In fact every weapon in Dead Space is amazing and useful, except the pulse rifle. It's the only actual weapon in the game and you can tell why the security and marines using it got owned. Primary fire isn't surgical enough for killing necromorphs and while the secondary fire proximity mine is useful it's not good enough to make up for the rest of the weapon. After getting two or three more weapons I ended up just chucking the pulse rifle in storage and selling all of its ammo to buy ammo for the tools that are actually useful.
