@RSMI: From the Vault | Jazz that Sings
Originally performed on June 19, 2015, in Bennett Gordon Hall by members of Ravinia's Steans Music Institute's Program for Jazz Learn more about RSMI Jazz: https://youtu.be/eKIo0sVNRP8 Quinn Sternberg “Downpour” - 00:20 Composed while at Ravinia, Sternberg’s melody came to him on a rainy day in the park. Josh Reed “Red Hot Emu” - 05:29 An anagram for “deer mouth,” Reed’s piece got its name from a mispronunciation of a dorm at Lake Forest College after a long day of driving. Michael Mayo “Sierra” - 12:34 Mayo’s tune explores the feeling of wanting to go somewhere new so badly you lose yourself, and perhaps finding the place you’re going to in the process. Cedric Edmon II “Somethin’ Nice” - 18:57 Simple and groovy, Edmon sought to compose “somethin’ nice” to round out the program. Michael Mayo, vocalist Josh Reed, trumpet Billy Test, piano Quinn Sternberg, bass Cedric Edmon II, drums Ensemble coached by RSMI Faculty Member Billy Childs, piano
