Her parents would like her to follow the Chinese tradition of wearing a red dress, but Louise has never done what her parents have told her. As the only child of Chinese immigrants, Louise has become westernised and has never dated Chinese men. She has chosen 35-year-old Sri Lankan Lalith as her fiancé and luckily her parents have accepted him. It’s a different story for Lalith. He’s a Hindu and his parents want him to have an arranged marriage. Lalith was sent to boarding school in India and then on to Uni in Melbourne. He surprised himself by falling for an Asian woman but feels their mix of tradition and their modern outlooks have brought them together. Lalith’s parents are not coming to the wedding. They will not speak to Louise as tradition dictates that they speak to her parents first. She will not let that happen – they either speak to her first or no one. Lalith has a tough job on his hands trying to persuade his parents to acknowledge his bride-to-be before the big day.
