Reformed Forum's video: Latin and the Reformation

@Latin and the Reformation
David Noe says there are two streams of influence in Renaissance Latin: Cicero and everybody else. Erasmus reacted against the strong Ciceronianism of the sixteenth century. Calvin would re-read all of Cicero’s philosophical treatises each year for the purpose of keeping his Latin sharp. Nevertheless, Calvin as also strongly influenced by Seneca, who had a much different style. While Cicero is often caricatured as the master of the long sentence, Seneca is much more pointed. Calvin combined both elements to great rhetorical effect. This clip is from Christ the Center episode 683 (https://www.reformedforum.org/ctc683)
