HI! Today we are studying and practicing how to create rich and powerful low notes. In this video I take you step-by-step through exercises to develop your lower range. We will look at the… Soft Palate Larynx Breath Tongue Vowel Shape Jaw Many of the exercises we are going to work with today will be on vowels a, e,i,o,u… why? Vowels carry your sound, your voice, your beautiful tone… Consonants… p, b, th… do not carry the core of your sound… we need to give our vowels… lots of love as we sing… and that holds true in low note land as well. [i] as in me [I] as in mit [E] as in met [e] as in hey [a] as in awesome [o] as in open [u] as in you Two important game rules as we play today… 1. Do not reach down mentally for your low notes. Don’t think of the notes as up or down vertically. The larynx will adjust for the note that you think about… you don’t have to do extra in your mind to create the pitch. 2. Do not reach down physically for low notes… nope, no vertical action necessary here either. No tilting the head forward or down, no squishing your chin against your throat, no pushing down inside on larynx or tongue for the low notes. With these concepts and exercises you will start building rich, yummy, relaxed and resonant low notes. Don’t be afraid to start small and then build in volume. Don’t be afraid to start in a more neutral place and then add your style or emotion. Start finding your vocal balance when singing! Singing is a process and you don’t start at the finish line.
