Reliance Foundation's video: Reliance Foundation: Transforming Rajasthan through collective effort

Reliance Foundation believes in empowering Indian farmers by equipping them with essential skills and knowledge to earn a sustainable livelihood. With this in view, RF helped transform Girdharpura, a village in Rajasthan, by encouraging the villagers to form a Village Association and collectively participate for the welfare of one and all. Led by Pappulal Meena, the Village Association (VA) undertook various water conservation activities to help change the way the farmers practiced irrigation, enabling them to cultivate 3 crops in a year, instead of just one. The VA also encouraged the households to conserve electricity by replacing the 100W bulbs with 7W LED bulbs, helping Girdharpura achieve the status of Rajasthan‘s first ever LED village. Chandra Kunwar of village Jharkund, Rajasthan, took the initiative to organize the women into a Self Help Group and encouraged them to collectively work for their well-being. The group not only promoted healthcare awareness among the womenfolk, but also helped initiate a commercial enterprise to promote menstrual hygiene, while ensuring a sustainable livelihood for its members. Hailing from backward communities, these women were bound by traditions restricting them from leading a dignified life. With Reliance Foundation ‘s help, they have access to healthcare services as well as financial security, making the village an epitome of courage and conviction.
