Reliance Foundation's video: Reliance Foundation: Empowering women through Women Thrift Groups WTGs

There is no doubt that women are the key agents of development and are the greatest source of untapped potential in the global effort to eradicate poverty and advance collective prosperity. With this in view, Reliance Foundation is taking steps to empower these women and make them self-reliant by facilitating the formation of Women Thrift Groups (WTG) in rural India. The women are educated on how their small savings and contributions can help make a bid difference in their own lives. They are taught the importance of saving money as well proper money management practices which are big help to them in their personal lives as well. The WTGs help members with loans for taking care of expenses like children’s education fee, medical as well as investing in capital for creating sustainable livelihoods like stitching and poultry farming. The success of the WTGs and its members has inspired women from nearby villages to follow suit and form WTGs in their own villages to achieve self reliance and financial security.
