Reliance Foundation's video: Reliance Foundation: Ferro-cement Tank Changing Lives Transforming Villages

Keshar Singh’s village in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand faced severe water shortage. Due to the remote location in the mountains of Uttarakhand and the steep terrain, fetching water was an extremely difficult task. However, the situation changed after Reliance Foundation (RF) started working in the area. RF introduced a new technology to resolve this issue – ferro-cement tanks. Cost-effective and light-weight, the two member team from RF finished constructing the tank in 7 days’ time. The team then helped the villagers make another tank next to the first one. These water harvesting structures store rain water. Therefore, the people no longer need to make the dangerous trek to fetch water. Keshar was among the people who was trained to construct the tank. With this knowledge, he is helping other communities resolve their water woes. His expertise took him to Madhya Pradesh, where he constructed a 7,000 litre ferro-cement tank. Additionally, he is able to earn almost double his wages as a mason. Not only has the ferro-cement tank provided a solution to water scarcity in Rudraprayag, but has also changed the lives of people like Keshar Singh.
