Reliance Foundation's video: Reliance Foundation: Creating Change Makers - S Budhek - leading his village to prosperity

With support and mentorship from Reliance Foundation (RF), Satyanarayan Budhek emerged a leader in Budelguma village in Balangir, Odisha, leading his village to prosperity. Lack of regular water for irrigation was a major concern for the people of Budelguma. Guided by RF and led by Budhek, the villagers constructed bori bandhan, a water structure, to hold water for assured irrigation. Observing the success of this initiative, RF helped convert the temporary water structure into a permanent check dam. Water was now easily accessible which improved farm yields. RF also helped villagers set up Reliance Nutrition Gardens (RNG) in their backyard to meet the nutritional requirements of their families. When the farm yield increased significantly due to consistent availability of water, Satyanarayan took the initiative further and encouraged the villagers to establish a local market. Farmers from nearly 40 neighbouring villages now participate in this market and earn a profit on their surplus produce. Today, Satyanarayan is committed to working closely with RF towards the progress and sustainable development of his village.
