In June 2013, flash floods caused by heavy rainfall and cloudburst wreaked havoc in 12 of the 13 districts in Uttarakhand. The loss of life and property affected Rudraprayag district the hardest, severely impacting children and their education. Two schools in Lwara & Tainthi were damaged beyond repair and needed immediate reconstruction. Reliance Foundation was the first on ground, with relief and rehabilitation work, and committed to the reconstruction of these schools. In November 2017 the reconstruction was completed and the new schools were handed over to the education department on January 15, 2018. These new schools are equipped with much better amenities, such as separate toilets for girls, good size class rooms with fans, science labs etc, and will benefit over 1000 students in the region. The schools serve as a milestone in the region in terms of the quality and infrastructure, and offer a new ray of hope to students, teachers and parents alike. At present, RF is working towards holistic development of 13 villages in Rudraprayag.
