Religious Scholarship & Literacy's video: UULA Adult RE BS L 21: The Tabernacle of Moses Exodus 25-31 35-40

Recording of the Biblical Scholarship and Literacy class given Sunday, May 29th 2022 at 11:45am. We cover Exodus 25-31, 35-40. The subject is "The Tabernacle of Moses". This is the first class since we took a two year break because of covid. We do a more extensive review than normal (because of the break), before diving into today's subject. We review the documentary hypothesis, the trip to Sinai (lecture from October 2019), historicity (lecture from November 2019), the Decalogue and the Book of the Covenant (lecture from January 2020). Then we begin the discussion of the Tabernacle itself. We discuss the four core "themes" of the tabernacle, issues of historicity, and questions regarding the "Tent of Meeting" vs. the Tabernacle, and various historical parallels to the Tabernacle from Egypt (the Battle Tent of Ramses 2), Carthage, and Israel itself. There are four main "themes" that describe the significance of the Tabernacle to Ancient Israel: 1. Recalling the creation 2. Returning to the Garden of Eden 3. Recreating Mt. Sinai, and taking that recreation with them 4. A palace for God, the king My models for the Tabernacle and Priests clothing are visible behind me in the recording, but are difficult to see.
