We discuss priesthood in the Ancient Near East, and Genesis 14, the story of Abraham and Melchizedek. We will also discuss the ways that later generations viewed the character of Melchizedek. We will discuss references to Melchizedek in the Psalms (Ps. 110) and his use in the community of Qumran. We will then evaluate how Christians viewed and used the existent stories of Melchizedek to point to Christ, especially in the Book of Hebrews.
