Biblical Scholarship & Literacy, Lecture 11, Biblical Festivals and the Christian Easter. Lecture delivered on 4/21/2019, Easter Sunday. Course WebPage: https://sites.google.com/view/biblicalscholarshipandliteracy In this lecture we discuss the concepts of sacred time and space in the Bible, and give examples including the Biblical Sabbath, Passover, Pentacost, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), and Sukkot (Tabernacles). With this introduction and background, we discuss the Christian festival of Easter, it's origins and meaning of modern Christians. We cover questions relating to Eostre and Ishtar, Bunnies, Eggs, and Fertility, and discussion what (if any) connection these things have with the Christian celebration of Easter. We will then tell the story of Christ, his birth, life, death, and resurrection.
