Rev Match Media's video: 2022 BMW M440i xDrive Review: The 4-Door Gran Coupe

@2022 BMW M440i xDrive Review: The 4-Door Gran Coupe
The 2022 BMW M440i Gran Coupe showed up in a Brooklyn Grey color that was both subtle but attention grabbing. The other attention grabbing detail was the body lines of the Gran Coupe. This is one of those vehicles that I don’t get the name. Even though this has 4-doors, it is actually considered a “coupe”. The Gran Coupe is based on the 4-Series Coupe and does suffer in rear space. I was unable to add my son’s full sized child seat in the back. We ended up using the small booster seat to get him situation. He even commented that he felt crammed in the back. At this point, just get the true “coupe”. Up front, the driver seat had plenty of space. The big issue I encountered was the lack of power seats for both the driver and front passenger. After some research, it was due to the chip shortage. The M440i’s paperwork even credits the buyer $995 for the lack of power seats. I find it weird that a $67,000 vehicle would have that removed and not on lower level 2 or 3-series BMWs. The 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine was incredible. With a mild hybrid system, the power was always available at any RPM range. I never experienced a lull at any speed and felt the shifts coming faster and faster. The sounds were also a pleasure to experience but was respectable when put into ECO mode. Overall the 2022 BMW M440i Gran Coupe was a great experience. If I were to build my 4-Series, I’d stick to the true coupe. I don’t feel like the rear doors added anything but frustration that it’s not a bigger 5-Series.
