The year 2020 has been the craziest, most destructive year in living memory: Covid. Massive unemployment. Economic uncertainty. Poor leadership. Protests. Counter protests. Election jitters. And death. Lots of death. As of 31 December 2020 more than 1.8M people (worldwide) have died from the virus that causes COVID-19. In the United States alone more than 350K have died since January 2020. More illness, death and virus-fatigue are expected in the coming months of 2021, and even with anti-COVID vaccines now in distribution, more sadness and frustration will surely follow as more people succumb to the virus and its complications. We’ve all become numb to the sacrifice and loss caused by the pandemic. It’s time to move forward and embrace the hope and promise of a new year, 2021. As a popular Sesame Street meme says, “The year 2020 has been brought to you by the letters w-t-f.” Amen.
