Christine Sweet Co-Founder of Ripe and the Ripe team recently attended the Plant Based World Conference & Expo in New York, and sat down with Founder and CEO of Miyoko’s Kitchen: Miyoko Schinner. Schinner shared her story of being an immigrant who moved to California from Japan when she was just a little girl. While growing up she consciously decided to cut meat and dairy out of her diet and soon found it harder and harder to eat the meals her family prepared for her, so she decided to cook her own - subsequently growing up to be a vegan chef and entrepreneur. Although Miyoko’s Kitchens Artisan Vegan Cheese, Mozzarella, and European Style Butter are sought after products, Miyoko’s cashew cheese recipe is no secret, as she’s written many vegan cookbooks, most notably Artisan Vegan Cheese. Her brand and product line has quickly captured the market and can now be easily found at grocery stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. Miyoko’s Kitchen has without a doubt become a staple vegan cheese brand enjoyed by both the plant-based vegan community and non vegans. Schinner also owns an animal sanctuary, Rancho Compassion, and is one of the founding members of the Plant Based Food Association.
